It doesn’t matter what size your apartment is, you’ll be able to grow anything you want. However, if you’re trying to grow a vegetable or herb from the inside for the first time, you may be wondering what to do.

Find what you like
Obviously, before you can start growing something, you need to make a few decisions. There is a wide variety of vegetables and herbs to choose from, so take your time when choosing. One thing that’s worth mentioning is that growing a vegetable takes far longer than growing an herb. Vegetables can take up to four months while herbs only take up to four weeks.

Provide sunlight
Once you’ve chosen your desired herb or vegetable, it’s time to start the process. Find an area in the apartment where there is a lot of sunlight. Your window is a prime spot for giving it sunlight. No matter what you’re growing, sunlight is going to play one of the most important roles in it’s growth. It provides the vegetable or herb plants with the nutrients it needs.

Use the right soil
A common misconception that many first time vegetable or herb growers have is that it doesn’t matter what soil you use. This is not true as there are many types of soils used for specific plants, vegetables and herbs. If you’re unsure of what soil to use, consult a professional or research it online. If you use the wrong soil, it can severely hinder the growth.

Give water routinely
Like humans, vegetables and herbs need plenty of water to thrive. Make sure to put your plant that’s near an easily accessible water supply. In addition, you need to be diligent when supplying your vegetable or herb with water. Do not give too much or too little. It’s important to know how much water is needed before you plant it.

Be cautious of the wind
Be mindful of where you put your growing vegetables. Vegetables start off with a stem and a few leaves, which can be severely damaged by the wind. If the stem is damaged, it will either kill the plant entirely or severely hinder its growth. Keep the windows shut before placing the plant in front of them.

Just because you live in an apartment doesn’t mean you should shy away from indulging your green thumb. Growing vegetables and herbs in your apartment is a great way to satisfy your garden needs while enjoying the city life.

You can have a garden just about anywhere, including the inside of your apartment.
