Creative ideas to transform an old window into a hanging herb garden

People are always excited to learn new ideas about gardening, which repurpose old things. Recycling something that you have already handy is always more satisfying than buying something new from the market. You can start growing herbs and vegetables with your own inexpensive DIY herb garden with just a few reused or recycled windows!

Here’s a quick and easy DIY on our freestanding herb garden. This method is particularly impressive. Grab some old window frame, a screwdriver, scrap wood, and of course, your herbs and pots.

Things needed for hanging herb garden:

  • A Screw box
  • A Driver
  • 2 Boards (2 x 2)
  • Two window displays equal in size
  • Wide boards to use as shelves
  • A pair of heavy-duty wire

Method of doing:

  • Start with two frames of the same size, which are salvaged. Using a driver and screws to place two hinges at the top of the frames and connect them.
  • When you decide where the shelf is to be placed, open the frames up to the width you would want them to be, and cut two brace parts to the correct length, and screw them in on either side.
  • Once this is done, measure around the front and side of the frames to see how long your shelf boards will have to be. Then screw them with something sturdy like plywood.
  • Then hang your pots using stiff wire. Bend the wire into the pot shape and thread it through the screen and twist the two ends in the back to protect the frame.
  • All in all, it probably just takes about forty minutes!

Now anything that you need to do is enjoy your lovely new hanging herb garden in the summer. You can add even more plants, and make it a part of your garden with some fresh herbs that have tons of space to grow. But if you have a smaller space, stick with the screens and perhaps a few plants on the screens themselves that you can easily take care of.

Use of old frames to grow fresh products

Old frames are perfect for DIY herb gardens, which helps in the growth of crops such as lettuce, kale, spinach, and various herbs as well.

Gardening using various types of old windows:

  • 1. Mirrored windows

This unique project is delightful and fun to make. Outdoor use of mirrors is one of the oddly simple pleasures of life; the effect is both familiar and original, and never fails to impress.

  • 2. Free hanging garden with window

One can use virtually any old window frame to build it. If you add a bit of imagination and effort, you can turn each cell of the frame into a mini pocket for container gardening, hang the whole thing against a wall, a fence, or build a standing frame.

  • 3. The tree hung picture window

One of the most exciting ways an old window frame can be reused is by giving it new life with a new meaning. There’s nothing more exciting than removing the background from the window completely, letting it float in space under a tree’s branches.
